biography

On a recent trip from Zanskar to Nubra on the Chinese Indian border, Lars and his small crew for the Sacred Valleys project were resting and getting used to the altitude. It was spring and the only access into this remote valley had been closed for 9 months. After crossing the pass at 6,000 meters they were among the first ones into the valley after the long Himalayan winter.
“ It’s been one amazing journey, Lars says. My whole life has been an ongoing journey... I have always tried to follow my passions and it’s been a great ride.”
From the early years of world travels to a long successful photography career in New York City and on to become an experienced and accomplished image maker in both the arts and the commerce.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden and raised in Malmö, Lars travelled the world with his Nikon.
He moved to California and graduated with honors from Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara. Returning to Scandinavia he worked with Schiller Fotografi in Copenhagen where he also opened his first studio, creating photographs for ad agencies and graphic design firms.
In the mid eighties Lars moved his operations to New York City to work with national and international clients.
For about 20 years he was shooting and managing a high energy Chelsea photo studio with large production and setbuilding facilities, dressing rooms and daylight shooting studios.
“ I guess time flies when you’re having fun... and my passion for photography has just kept on growing. Today I find it increasingly interesting to work on a variety of assignments.
Now, in the digital age, image making is more exciting than ever. Both artistically and commercially.
I do enjoy the commercial jobs, they have a very unique excitement to them. It is the collective work of a creative team, with energy and fast pace, tight production schedules and budgets.
At the same time I find it very rewarding to work on documentary projects, accessing remote locations and exploring the world. Trying to make a difference.
The Sacred Valley project is very close to my heart . It seeks to portray the great monasteries of the Himalayas and the vanishing culture of the Tibetan world. ”
Lars continues to divide his time between selective commercial assignments, documentary work and personal projects. He is currently based in Dallas, TX.
“ I try to stay close to the cutting edge of digital imaging techniques and I keep exploring new possibilities in the image making process.
The latest developments in capture as well as editing and print making have all been truly amazing, and the most exciting part may be that in a larger perspective we are only scratching the surface of it all… ”
